§ 01Agreement

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a contract between you and Oluwasimisola Oremosu (sole trader, United Kingdom), trading as CertAnvil. By creating an account, subscribing to a paid plan, or using any part of the CertAnvil website or apps, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.

If you don't agree, please don't use CertAnvil. You can stop using it at any time and (if you have an account) delete it from Settings, see § 06.

§ 02Eligibility

To use CertAnvil you must be at least 13 years old. In jurisdictions where the minimum age for digital consent is higher (e.g. 16 in parts of the EU), you must meet that local minimum or have a parent/guardian's permission.

If you're using CertAnvil on behalf of an employer or training provider, you confirm you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

You may not use CertAnvil if you're subject to economic sanctions imposed by the UK, the EU, the United States, or the United Nations that would prevent us from providing services to you.

§ 03Your account

TL;DR You're responsible for the email you sign up with and for everything that happens on your account. Sign-in is by magic link only, so there's no password to steal. That makes your inbox the key to your account, so keep it secure.

You sign in by requesting a single-use link sent to your email address. Anyone with access to that inbox can sign in as you. Keep your email account secure by enabling two-factor authentication with your email provider.

You're responsible for the activity that happens under your account. If you suspect someone else has accessed your account, sign out from Settings (which invalidates active sessions) and contact support@certanvil.com immediately.

One person, one account. Don't share accounts or sell access. Team licences for bootcamps and training providers will be available separately. Until they ship, contact us if you need bulk access.

§ 04Subscriptions and pricing

TL;DR Free tier = $0 forever with a 20-question-per-day cap. Pro = $9.99/month or $89/year, auto-renews until you cancel.

4.1 · Free tier

The Free tier is available without a credit card, indefinitely. It includes the Baseline Diagnostic, Pass Plan, all basic drills (Subnet Trainer, Port Drill, Acronym Blitz, OSI Sorter, and Cable ID), and up to 15 AI-generated questions plus 5 spaced-review cards per day. The daily limit resets at midnight UTC. Pro-only features (Topology Builder, ACL Builder, Incident Response War Room, Phishing Triage Lab, Packet Trace, Exam Simulator) are not included.

4.2 · Pro tier

Pro unlocks unlimited AI question generation across all certs, the Exam Simulator (90-Q timed), every Pro-only drill, and advanced analytics (Knowledge Constellation, weak-spots, readiness trends, retention coaching). Refunds are covered in § 05. Two billing periods are available at checkout:

4.3 · Billing and auto-renewal

Subscriptions are processed by Stripe. By subscribing you authorise Stripe to charge your payment method on the renewal date until you cancel. Stripe handles all card data, so we never see it. Stripe emails you a receipt for each charge.

If a renewal payment fails, Stripe will automatically retry up to 4 times over approximately 7 days. During that grace period your subscription status is past_due and you keep Pro access, but you'll see a banner asking you to update your card. If all retries fail, your subscription is moved to canceled and your access reverts to Free.

4.4 · Price changes

We may change subscription prices at any time. If we change the price of your specific plan, we'll email you at least 30 days before the change applies to your account. You can cancel before the new price takes effect if you don't want to continue at the new price. Existing annual subscribers are price-locked for the remainder of their current paid year.

4.5 · Currency and tax

Prices are listed in US dollars and processed by Stripe. Stripe applies VAT/sales tax automatically based on your billing country where required. The amount charged to your card may differ slightly from the listed dollar amount because of currency conversion done by your card issuer.

§ 05Refunds

5.1 · 14-day refund window for first-time subscribers

If you're a first-time Pro subscriber and you cancel within 14 days of your initial payment, we'll refund that payment in full. This applies to your first paid subscription only. Resubscribing later does not reset the window.

To request a refund in the 14-day window, cancel your subscription from your Stripe Customer Portal and email billing@certanvil.com with the email on your account. We'll process the refund within 7 days.

5.2 · Beyond 14 days

After the initial 14-day window, refunds are issued only in genuine special circumstances (e.g. service unavailable for an extended period, billed for a plan you didn't request). Cancel anytime to stop future charges, see § 06.

5.3 · UK and EU consumer rights

If you're a consumer in the UK or EU, you have statutory rights to refunds and cancellation under your local consumer-protection law (UK Consumer Rights Act, EU Consumer Rights Directive). These statutory rights apply alongside § 05.1 and are not affected by it. Note that by starting to use a digital subscription within the 14-day cooling-off window, you typically waive the right to cancel under the EU CRD; § 05.1 above is more generous than that minimum and applies anyway.

§ 06Cancellation

6.1 · Cancel subscription (keep account)

Open your Stripe Customer Portal from your CertAnvil Account page and click "Cancel subscription". Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, and you keep Pro access until then. After it expires, you're back on Free with no charges.

6.2 · Delete account (everything goes)

From the cert app → Settings → "Delete my account". This will:

  • Cancel any active Stripe subscription immediately (not at period end, so you lose Pro access right away).
  • Permanently delete your account email, profile, quiz history, drill mastery, milestones, topology saves, and performance telemetry rows.
  • Sign you out and clear local browser cache.

The deletion cascade is irreversible. Stripe keeps its own billing records under its retention policy (typically 7 years, for tax and chargeback compliance), and we can't delete those.

§ 07Acceptable use

Don't Studying for the certifications we support is exactly what CertAnvil is for. Using the AI proxy to generate non-cert content, scraping questions to resell, or running automated load tests against it is not.

You may:

  • Use CertAnvil to prepare for the certifications it supports.
  • Share screenshots, your readiness number, and your honest opinion of the product on social media.
  • Cite specific question explanations in a study group, as long as you don't republish wholesale chunks of the question bank.

You may not:

  • Use the AI question-generation pipeline to produce non-cert content (creative writing, code generation, general-purpose chat).
  • Automate access to the AI proxy beyond normal human use, including headless browsers, scripts, or API scraping.
  • Bypass the daily-question quota by creating multiple Free accounts.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract our prompts, system instructions, or proprietary content.
  • Republish or resell the question bank, exemplar bank, or any other CertAnvil content as your own product.
  • Use CertAnvil for any unlawful purpose, including reselling access in jurisdictions where we are blocked or sanctioned.
  • Submit fraudulent refund claims.

If we believe you're violating these rules, we may suspend or terminate your account, see § 12.

§ 08Intellectual property

CertAnvil's question exemplar bank, retention-concept library, scenario explanations, drill content, and underlying code are owned by us. You get a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use them via the product for the duration of your account. You don't get the right to redistribute, resell, or build derivative products from them.

Your data is yours. We do not claim ownership of your quiz history, your saved topologies, or anything else you input. You can export it at any time (Settings → Export Data) and we delete it on request.

The CompTIA exam names (Network+, Security+, N10-009, SY0-701, etc.) are trademarks of CompTIA. CertAnvil is not affiliated with or endorsed by CompTIA. We prepare you for their exams using publicly-documented objectives.

§ 09AI-generated content

Important Questions and explanations are generated by an AI model (Anthropic's Claude). We validate them through a 7-layer pipeline, but AI output can still be wrong. Treat CertAnvil as a study aid and confirm anything important against an authoritative source.

The questions, explanations, deep dives, and AI coach responses in CertAnvil are produced by Anthropic's Claude model and run through a 7-layer validation stack (prompt self-check, curated exemplar bank, semantic second-pass, interrogative-stem gate, programmatic validator, regression gate, and Sonnet escalation). That pipeline is there to catch hallucinations and factual errors, but we can't guarantee every output is correct.

Always cross-check answers against the official CompTIA objectives and reputable resources (Professor Messer, Jason Dion's books, the CompTIA Exam Objectives PDF). If you spot an error, please report it via the "Report this question" button in the app. Your reports feed directly back into the validation pipeline.

We are not responsible for exam outcomes that depend on relying solely on AI-generated content as your only source of preparation.

§ 10Service availability

We aim for 99.5% uptime on a rolling 30-day basis. Realistically you should expect occasional downtime for maintenance, dependency outages (Supabase, Stripe, Vercel, Anthropic), or genuine bugs.

CertAnvil is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any specific feature will be available at any specific time. We may add, modify, or remove features at our discretion, though we'll try to give notice for material changes that affect Pro subscribers.

§ 11Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • CertAnvil's total liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms or the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. For Free users, that maximum is £0.
  • We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages. That includes lost profits, lost study time, exam fees you had to re-pay, or career outcomes affected by an exam result.
  • We are not liable for the actions of third-party sub-processors (Stripe, Anthropic, Supabase, etc.), though we'll cooperate with you to resolve issues caused by them.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (notably your statutory rights as a consumer under UK or EU law).

§ 12Termination by us

We may suspend or terminate your account if you:

  • Violate the Acceptable Use rules in § 07.
  • Submit fraudulent refund claims, chargebacks for legitimate charges, or fake billing disputes.
  • Have an unpaid balance for more than 30 days after grace-period retries have exhausted.
  • Use the service in a way that creates legal liability for us (e.g. operating from a sanctioned jurisdiction).

If we terminate your account for a violation of these Terms, you forfeit any unused portion of your subscription and we are not obligated to refund. If we terminate your account for any other reason (e.g. we wind down the service entirely), we'll refund the unused portion of your most recent payment on a pro-rata basis.

§ 13Disputes and governing law

13.1 · Try to resolve directly first

If you have a complaint, please email support@certanvil.com with the details. We respond to most complaints within 7 days and try to resolve them quickly and fairly.

13.2 · Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any legal dispute will be brought in the courts of England and Wales. The one exception: if you're a consumer in the UK, EU, or another jurisdiction with mandatory local consumer-protection law, you may also bring claims in your local courts under your local law where that law requires it.

13.3 · No class actions

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to resolve disputes individually rather than as part of a class action or representative proceeding. (This clause does not apply if it would conflict with mandatory consumer law in your jurisdiction.)

§ 14Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes (pricing, refund policy, acceptable use rules, governing law) we'll notify subscribers by email at least 14 days before they take effect. For minor edits (typos, link fixes, clarifications that don't change substance) we may publish the updated version without notice. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent material change.

This is v1.0, the initial publication of the Terms. Future versions will be listed below as they ship.
